“The place of action [the body], the performer, the various senses, the many different kinds of endeavor, and ultimately the Supersoul- these are the five factors of action.” 18.14 Bhagavad Gita Conclusion- The Perfection of Renunciation
“Knowledge, the object of knowledge, and the knower are three factors that motivate action; the senses, the work and the doer are the three constituents of action.” 18.18 Bhagavad Gita Conclusion- The Perfection of Renunciation
It is only in a colloquial sense that there are “five” factors of action; all factors, the resolve of all impulses, the very source of the stimuli which animated them, these ultimately amount to love, manifest in the Buddhist worldview. It is the determinism of “the body”, as well as the operator of said body (the self), in addition to literally every facet of each of the five senses at all moments, and even though potentiality is always Infinite, the potentialities at hand are always concretized/finite, and so therefore too it’s also the determinism of “the many different kinds of endeavor” (I choose to believe that astral projection is possible, mannn), as well as ultimately the Supersoul (Universal Will/Harmony) that we are effectively unto each other to the tune of perpetuating our very ways of Being as a people across time (love).
We…even though in many ways we are, are not overtly told, especially as adults, that the merit of all activity will inevitably be love. There comes with that…a certain sense of peace/tranquility. You begin to understand the emphasis culturally of the “beauty in nature”…that’s your very nature, and the two are inextricably linked. It also instills a sense of meaningful resolve…it inspires one to be willing to walk the path, whatever it may entail. A world like that is far more often in forward motion. To one who suddenly makes it, they’re shocked at how short a distance more there really is to traverse. It’s a thing of maturity that simultaneously amounts to equivalency not only with excellency, manifest, in the abstract, but our Fathers/the preceding lot. All achieve it the same, as individuals. It establishes a victorious equality amongst peoples, above the very conditions of Universe.
Once again, this is not how we typically regard action in the West…perhaps worldwide, at that. “Knowledge”, “the object of knowledge”, and the “knower”, we’re told, are factors which “motivate” action, but action, we were just taught, is bound to a curriculum on effective love, and the consequences of action stoke dynamism as such that life is tended to effectively simply because things exist, and things exist seemingly because they are tended to effectively. Action is about attaining enlightenment, and enlightenment is about communing with Source, where all worries subside and dreams incline towards inevitable resolution. All things commune, all activity, its the singular process which tends to the Cosmos/sustains it…the engagement of the Transcendental Object at the end of time.
The work of people who work with knowledge/wisdom is simply the work of shining a conscious light on what’s happening, unwittingly in all things. They have a real capacity to meaningfully deter/defeat suffering in doing as much…this could amount to meaningful social progress so I hate to present it in such mundane terms, but I am trying to be grounded…this stuff is often very exciting…the realization that activity is about manifesting the Transcendental Object at the End of Time (the image of God; that of God which can be known in an objectified, limited way, which is synonymous with Love) within time, and that in doing as much you essentially score a big time jackpot at the level of universal mechanics, perhaps off of the charts relative to other constructive forms of activity…
According to this passage, the three “constituents” of action are essentially derivative of the general individual existing… if God enjoys us doing the universe, which mysteriously glorifies Him at all moments as the mechanics truly are perfect (our beauty is His), it’s safe to assume we’ll keep procreating and this machine will just continue on, but this flies in the face of modern sensibility (which believes our ways as a people will be obliterated by/are not a product of spiritual merit) and is perpetually stomped down by the media/institutions…the very same ones that keep you stoked in fear and trapped as a consumer (as opposed to a producer).
We have Daddy issues. And our cosmic Daddy is rich.
There’s good reason to be happy and to lean into your shadow. It’s both proof as well as the very vehicle of Love, triumphant, for every one and everything, always and forever om nom nom nom to thine own self be true, Selfhood is the actual assigned social role…
